Graham Baldock
This is the ninth in a series about these “Club Legends”.
Graham was born in Geelong in 1948. His father
died in 1961 and his mother returned to Ararat.
His first job was in the chemist shop in Ararat. Next
he worked at Prestige Textile Mill in Ararat. He then
went to the loco sheds and applied to work at the
station in June 1965.
In 1968 he went to the signal box in North Geelong,
where worked until 2007. Graham married Elaine in
2006 and inherited a ready-made family of three
daughters and four grandchildren.
His first car was an Austin A50 then a Morris 10
which was 75% restored. He had it for 29 years.
Graham is a self-taught restorer but also gained a
lot of knowledge from club members. He says the
hardest part of restoration is spray painting.
He owns a 1949 Skoda, 1929 Chev truck and a 1935
Dodge Coupe. His favourite is the Dodge, which
belonged to a former club member Don Eames.
Graham’s dream car is a Thunderbird
Our club includes people with a wealth of knowledge and experience that we wish to preserve.
Graham has been a club member since 1975 and he
has been on many events including Bay to
Birdwood, Marg Ivory’s long distance rallies, Sunday
runs and the Hamilton Rally for many years.
His other interests are the Hudson and Essex clubs:
also the Dodge and Skoda clubs.
When l asked Graham to tell me what he enjoyed
about our club his answer was simple.
Companionship, knowledge and a wonderful club for
anyone on their own as there is always something
enjoyable to do. Graham has been a great club
member who is willing to help anyone and always a
gentleman.
